Most religions and belief systems have the idea that our actions in our lives matter and will have some type of affect in this lifetime or the next, but most beliefs also teach that there are greater forces at work that have the ultimate control over mankind. At what point do we have freewill and where does the idea of freewill end?

Through the history of humankind, the idea of fate has been a hard pill to swallow for many, even the great Ragnar Lodbrok could not stand the idea that his fate was already set in stone. The thought that we have no control over our lives and fates can be a scary idea but there is no true answer to if we have the illusion of freewill or if we truly have no free will and everything is already planned out for each of us. Even the gods themselves are not strong enough, cunning enough, or even wise enough to change there fates, there fates are set in stone just as yours is and mine. The question now is if there is a greater power in control who is it and how are they so powerful?

In the ancient stories of the gods it speaks of three women the first is Urd, in old Norse meaning “past”, the second is Verdandi, in old Norse meaning “present” and the last Skuld, in old Norse meaning “future”, the three of these deities would come to be known as The Norns. They are mysteries in almost all aspects, they do not come from a certain kind of beings and nothing is really known on where they are from or what they are. What we do know of the Norns is they live in a hall near a well known as Urdarbrunnr or Well of Fate located at the base of Yggdrasil.

The Norns have been depicted through the centuries as women carving runes, weaving cloth, and casting wooden lots to control the fate of all beings in Midgard and all the Cosmos, including the gods. The Norns never were or if so, rarely worshipped by any beings, for there was no changing your fate no matter how much you worshiped. Fate was not seen as something that could be changed or swindled it was set in stone before your existence and there was no changing that, however, the only thing that was left up to you was your attitude and how you reacted to what fate would bring to your doorstep, So let this teach you that no matter what you face in the future what truly matters is your actions to what is brought before you.

One cannot change the stars, even to the all Father Himself, he has no power in controlling fate he even has been trying to cheat fate with all his warriors in Valhalla since the dawn of time. Each warrior of Valhalla will march from the great hall shoulder to shoulder with fallen comrades going into battle while Odin is hoping that having these warriors will maybe change his fate of being killed by the beast Fenrir. So even the gods themselves do not like the idea of fate but there is no changing what is already written in runes. One can only fight for destiny for so long before fate takes you in.

Skal,

Valhalla Nation
